MICROSURGICAL ENDODONTICS
In some cases, however, the conservative procedure (endodontic treatment or retreatment) is not sufficient to lead to healing and your endodontist will recommend surgical treatment.
In this procedure, an incision is made in the gums to reveal the underlying bone and inflamed tissues.
Next, the inflamed tissues or cysts and the last few millimeters of the root of the tooth are removed and healthy bone remains.
Then a filling material is placed at the apex of the root to prevent reinfection and the gums are sutured.
Within a few months or years, the bone heals and the tooth regains full function.
Postoperatively, there may be some discomfort in the area or slight swelling as the wound heals. This is normal after any surgical procedure and is managed with appropriate treatment.
